ELAINE M. CALE

Elaine Murden Cale, 76, died Feb. 5, 1997, in Riverside Regional Medical Center. Born in Richmond, she was a lifelong Newport News resident.

She was a 1937 graduate of Newport News High School. She was a charter member of North Riverside Baptist Church. She was a member of the Woman's Club of Newport News and the Riverside Regional Medical Center Auxiliary, where she did a lot of volunteer work. She was formerly associated with Meals on Wheels.

She was predeceased by her husband, James H. Cale. Survivors include her daughter, Pamela C. Parker of Virginia Beach; her son, J. Hatcher Cale Jr. of Williamsburg; her sister, Marie M. Carmean of Newport News; her brother, James W. Murden Jr. of Winston-Salem, N.C.; and five grandchildren, Todd S. Smith of Winston-Salem, Heather C. Smith of Virginia Beach, James H. Cale III and John C. Cale, both of Newport News, and Blake E. Cale of Williamsburg.

The family will receive friends today from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Peninsula Funeral Home. A funeral will be held at 12:30 p.m. Saturday in North Riverside Baptist Church by the Rev. Dr. John Carpenter. Burial will follow in Peninsula Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to North Riverside Baptist Church or the American Lung Association.
