Mary Etta Pittman Shields, 77, of the 900 block of Wolcott Ave., died peacefully Wednesday, Feb. 5, 1997, at Sentara Leigh Memorial Hospital.
She was a native of Scotland Neck, N.C., and the daughter of the late Gunther and Rose Anthony. She was a faithful member of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church. She was active in many phases of the life of the church. Among her memberships were the Pastor's Aid Society and the Missionary Circle.
Survivors include husband, Albert Shields of the home; a daughter, Katie Hines and her husband, John Hines of Chesapeake; a son, Morris Pittman and his wife, Ethel Pittman of Portsmouth; a sister, Ethel Shields; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be conducted at noon Tuesday in Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, Dinwiddie St., by the Rev. I. Joseph Williams. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park. Viewing will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Monday in Riddick Funeral Service. The body will be placed in church at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday.
