We wholeheartedly believe that for all the time and the money Virginia Beach has spent trying to get water from Lake Gaston, the city could already have built and had in operation the best desalinization public water-supply plant in the world.
Others have done it. Why can't Virginia Beach? After all, it has the whole Atlantic Ocean from which to draw water.
Hopefully, Ben Butler's Dec. 18 letter was eye opening as he asked: ``Suppose Virginia Beach started a bank with no money and then sued North Carolina to give them some?''
We say to Virginia Beach, ``Leave this beautiful lake as it is for our children and grandchildren. Focus on real possibilities.''
