John Patrick Driskill, 27, died Thursday, Feb. 7, 1997, in Virginia Beach General Hospital.
John was a member of All Saints Episcopal Church in Virginia Beach and was attending Tidewater Community College at the time of his death. He attended Cape Henry Collegiate where he lettered in basketball, soccer, and lacrosse. He graduated from Fork Union Military Academy where he lettered in soccer and lacrosse. After attending Louisburg Jr. College, he worked in the furniture industry in Hickory, N.C., before returning home.
John was an avid sports fan and enjoyed life to the fullest. His passions were following Virginia Tech, sports and fishing in the Chesapeake Bay. Virginia Tech has lost its number one sports fan.
John is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. William A. Driskill of Virginia Beach; his brother and sister-in-law James Michael and Robin Driskill of Raleigh, N.C.; his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Noell of Bedford County, Va.; and by his girlfriend, Joy Carpenter of Hickory.
There will be a private burial at Eastern Shore Chapel Cemetery on Monday. A memorial service will be conducted at 4 p.m. Tuesday at All Saints Episcopal Church by the Rev. Stanley Sawyer.
Following the service a reception will be held at his home at 1824 Duke of York Quay. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to All Saints Episcopal Church, 1968 Woodside Lane, Virginia Beach, Va. 23454, or to the Children's Home Society of Virginia, 4200 Fitzhugh Ave., Richmond, Va. 23230.
