William Henry Harrell, 72, of the 800 block of Clay Ave. died Feb. 7, 1997, in a Portsmouth hospital.
A native of Sussex County, Mr. Harrell was the widower of Myrtle L. Harrell. He retired from the Norfolk Naval Shipyard Fire Department as a firefighter after 36 years. He was a member of Brent-Lox Baptist Church, Portsmouth Moose Lodge No. 898 and an Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include daughter, Jennie Shaw of Chesapeake; two sisters, Mary Hay of Chesapeake and Kitty Owen of Orlando, Fla.; grandchild, Les Shaw and his wife, Kim, of Portsmouth.
A funeral will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Monday in Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel, by the Rev. G.W. Harley. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will be in the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. today.
