Charles Ray Vest, 58, of the 200 block of Britwell Drive, died Saturday, Feb. 8, 1997, in his residence.
Mr. Vest was born in Mount Eden, Ky., and was the son of Hattie Butts Vest of Shelbyville, Ky., and the late Cecil Vest. He was also predeceased by a brother, Kenneth Vest. Mr. Vest had been employed as an engineering technician with the public works department of the City of Chesapeake for more than 10 years.
Besides his mother, he is survived by his wife, Kay Vest; daughter, Christine V. Brickhouse and her husband, Jeffery; grandchildren, Sean and Heather Brickhouse, all of Chesapeake; six sisters, Joyce Reynolds of Shelbyville, Nancy Kerr, Lillian Carpenter and Mary Ann Pullin, all of Louisville, Ky., Wanda Magers of Clinton, Okla., and Ruth Self of Sugarland, Texas; and his brother, William Cecil Vest of Louisville.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Oman Funeral Home Chapel, Great Bridge, by the Rev. Harold Bergey. Burial will follow in Chesapeake Memorial Gardens. Viewing will begin Monday with the family receiving friends in the funeral home from 7 to 8 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Comfort Care Hospice Program of Chesapeake General Hospital.
