Helen Thompson Orban, 75, of the 700 block of School House Road died Friday, Feb. 7, 1997, in her residence.
Mrs. Orban was born in Goldsboro, N.C., and was the daughter of the late Harvey Tyson Cobb and Thelma Saunders Garris. She was the widow of Oswald B. Thompson. She had retired from Central Fidelity Bank after more than 20 years of service and was a member of Great Bridge United Methodist Church and the Order of the Eastern Star, Goldsboro Chapter.
Survivors include her husband, Joseph M. Orban of Chesapeake; her two sisters, Sandra Harrington of Valparaiso, Ind., and Jacqueline Carr of Peachtree City, Ga.; her brother, Leland Garris of Portsmouth; three step grandchildren, Ralph, Leslie and Jeff Carmines, all of Portsmouth; and 10 nieces and nephews.
A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday in Great Bridge United Methodist Church by the Rev. Robert Hastings. Burial will follow in Chesapeake Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends in Oman Funeral Home, Great Bridge, from 3 to 5 p.m. today. Memorial donations may be made to the Building Fund of the Great Bridge United Methodist Church, 201 Stadium Drive, Chesapeake, Va. 23320 or the American Cancer Society, 2730 Ellsmere Ave., Norfolk, Va. 23513.
