Sylvester B. Jackson, 88, of the 400 block of Beech St. died Feb. 6, 1997, in his residence.
He was a carpenter at the Norfolk Naval Air Station and retired after 29 years of service. Born in Gordonsville, Va., he was the widower of Elizabeth V. Jackson and a member of First Baptist Church, South Portsmouth.
Survivors include a daughter, Sylvia J. Weston; a son, Sylvester B. Jackson Jr., both of Portsmouth; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; son-in-law, George E. Weston; daughters-in-law, Gloria J. Outland and Lille M. Jackson; a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
A funeral will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday in First Baptist Church, South Portsmouth, by the Rev. Warren E. Amlet. Burial will be in Lincoln Cemetery. Family and friends will assemble at the residence at 1:30 p.m. The body will be placed in church at 1:30 p.m. Fisher Funeral Home is in charge.
