Clifton Herron, 75, of the 300 block of Chesapeake Ave., died Feb. 9, 1997, in a Portsmouth hospital.
Mr. Herron, a native of Keokee, Va., was retired from the Norfolk Naval Shipyard as a leadingman shipfitter after 34 years of service. He was a 32nd Degree Mason, and was a member of Tidal Wave Masonic Lodge 273, Port Norfolk Royal Arch Chapter 36, Scottish Rite Bodies, and Esther Chapter 37 Order of the Eastern Star. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, Moose Lodge 898, and a U.S. Navy veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Ada L. Ferrell Herron; a daughter, Dora L. McKay and her husband, John P. McKay, of Walworth, Wisc.; a son-in-law, James R. McDonnell Sr. He was preceded in death by another daughter, Catherine Ann ``Cathy'' McDonnell. Other survivors include a sister, Katherine J. Herron of Virginia Beach; six grandchildren, Michael P. McKay, Michele P. Sisk, Charles A. McKay, Teresa K. McKay, James R. ``Mickie'' McDonnell Jr. and Kellie Lynn Blair; seven great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandson.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Foster Funeral Home, Portsmouth, by the Rev. Philip J. Parker. Burial with Masonic rites and military honors will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. Friends may join the family today from 7 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to the Calvary Baptist Church Building Fund.
