Lewis Preston Johnson, 79, of Route 1, died Feb. 10, 1997, in Downeast Health and Rehabilitation.
A native of Bertie County, he was retired from Ford Motor Co. He was a member of Cool Spring Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Garnett Evans Johnson; three daughters, Myrna Lowe of Gatesville, Rachel Evans of Medina, Ohio, Joyce Umphlett of Ahoskie; a son, Carlton Johnson of Eure; a stepdaughter, Olia Harrell; a stepson, Jimmy Harrell of Eure; a sister, Annie Williams of Virginia; a brother, Archie Johnson of Ahoskie; a half-sister, Florence Nell Pope of Winton; seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, four step-grandchildren and five step-great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Cool Spring Baptist Church by the Rev. Horace Culpepper. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today in Harrell Funeral Home, Gatesville, and all other times at the residence.
