Fred Preston Huffman, 76, of the 14400 block of Plank Road, died Feb. 9, 1997.
Mr. Huffman, son of the late Walter and Edith Lambert Huffman, and was born in McComas, W.Va. He retired after 20 years in the U.S. Navy as a chief warrant officer, having served during World War II and aboard the USS Bryant and the USS Jones. He then moved to Southampton County. He was a top salesman at Albert Ford, a salesman for Duke Olds & Cadillac, owner and operator of Lakeside Service and Grocery in Suffolk and was last employed with the Virginia ABC Board in Courtland. He was a Baptist and a member of Camp P.D. Hunt Club.
Mr. Huffman is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 21 years, Mary Elizabeth Huffman; his precious dog, ``Brutus'' and his horse, ``Angel;'' four sisters, Mildred Wilburn of Bluefield, Va., Lucille Repass of Oceana, W.Va., Mary Lee Howell of Princeton, W.Va., Katie Burgess of Pekin, Ill.; four special adopted children, Holly and Michael Marks and Lori and Lindy Drake; and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Wednesday in Wright Funeral Home, Franklin, by the Rev. Thomas Caulkins and the Rev. David Johnson. Burial with full military honors will be at Barn Tavern Cemetery, Sebrell, Va. Visitation and viewing will be in his Courtland home that he restored and loved so much. Memorials may be made to Courtland Baptist Church or The American Heart Association.
