TUNA PERMITS CLARIFIED: Anyone fishing for Atlantic tuna must have a valid permit on board the boat. Vessel operators whose tuna permits have expired may keep fishing until March 31. But they have to renew their permits by calling 1-888-USA-TUNA.

New tuna permits also can be obtained by calling that number. New permits cost $18.

NAGS HEAD

MEDICAL CENTER GETS NEW DIRECTOR: Dr. Kimberly Keith has been appointed the new Medical Director of the Outer Banks Medical Center.

Dr. Keith comes from Winchester Medical Center in Winchester, Va., where she was a staff physician in the Emergency Department. She is board-certified in emergency medicine and graduated from the College of William and Mary and the Medical College of Virginia.

Dr. Keith lives in Southern Shores with her husband and four children.

KILL DEVIL HILLS

MAN ARRESTED ON DRUG CHARGES: Sheriff A.L. ``Bert'' Austin reported Monday that Shane P. Harrington, 23, a resident of Kill Devil Hills, was arrested Friday on charges of felonious possession of marijuana with the intent to sell and deliver; feloniously selling and delivering marijuana; and maintaining a vehicle for the storage of controlled substances.

Harrington was released after posting an $8,000 secured bond.
