Smith and Williams Funeral Home, which has locations in Norfolk and Virginia Beach, has been sold to death-care titan Service Corporation International. Neither company would disclose the terms, but industry sources say that it was in the millions of dollars. Bonnie Smith and Melvin Williams started Smith and Williams in 1967. There are no plans to terminate workers, said Larry Hemenway, manager of Smith and Williams' Norfolk chapel. Service Corp. is the world's largest funeral and cemetery organization. In Hampton Roads, it owns five funeral homes and five cemeteries. (Staff)
