RUTH COOPER

Ruth Cooper, 66, of the 31000 block of Walters Road died Feb. 9, 1997, after a long illness.

A native of Southampton County, Mrs. Cooper was predeceased by her parents, Jessie Whitehead and Lottie Ann Whitehead. She retired from Franklin High School after 10 years of service and was a member of Greater Oak Grove Church and was a missionary, choir and usher board member.

Survivors include her husband, Tazewell Cooper; sons, Maurice Harrell of Fort Stewart, Ga., Tyrone Harrell of Williamsburg; daughters, Bernice Preau, Sophonia Jones of Franklin, Wanda Grier of Woodbridge, Va.; brother, Elijah Whitehead of Franklin; sister, Allihee Baker of Suffolk; 16 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Greater Oak Grove by the Rev. Duck. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery. Elvin Vaughan Funeral Home is in charge.
