CHESTER C. BURGESS

Chester Clark Burgess, 84, died Monday, Feb. 10, 1997.

A native of Greenup, Ky., and a longtime resident of the Churchland area of Portsmouth, he was a member of St. Andrew Lutheran Church for many years. He was also a respected business leader and president of Burgess Brothers Paint Contracting Corp.

Survivors include his former wife, Harriette Burgess; son and daughter-in-law, Earl and Diana Burgess; grandson, William Burgess; brothers, Hubert and James Burgess; sisters, Ruth June Cooke and Garnet Ortega. From a family of 10 children, previously deceased brothers include Clyde, Arnold, Raymond, Ralph and sister, Marjorie Craig.

A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday in Snellings Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel. Burial will be private. The family will be at the funeral home at 10 a.m. Thursday to greet friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Virginia Beach United Methodist Church or to Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters. Mr. Burgess had been a member of the Elks and Moose lodges.
