Four sheriff's deputies received minor injuries Tuesday night during an inmate assault.
One deputy sheriff required stitches after he was hit by the inmate with a shoe, according to Capt. Linda Jacocks, a spokeswoman for the jail. He also had some front teeth chipped. Three other deputies suffered minor bumps and bruises.
They were treated at Virginia Beach General Hospital and released.
The incident occurred at around 8:30 p.m. in a cellblock, she said.
``The matter is under investigation,'' Jacocks said.
Jail officials did not release the identity of the inmate or the sheriff's deputies that were assaulted.
