One of four teen-agers accused of torching portable classrooms at Windsor Oaks Elementary School last May was given a suspended sentence on appeal this week by a Circuit Court judge.
Judge A. Bonwill Shockley on Tuesday ordered that Alan Ferrera, 16, be placed on indefinite supervised probation. In her ruling, Shockley suspended Ferrera's indefinite commitment to the Department of Justice.
That commitment was ordered by Judge Woodrow Lewis on Jan. 22, when Ferrera pleaded guilty in Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court to conspiracy, breaking and entering and as a principal in the second degree to arson. Lewis also ordered that Ferrera be held without bond pending his appeal to Circuit Court.
Last week, a Circuit Court judge granted Ferrera a personal recognizance bond pending his appeal.
Three portable classrooms were set on fire last May in two incidents. The fires caused more than $160,000 worth of damage. Ferrera was involved in an incident that occurred on May 12.
