MARY M. GATES

Mary MacLeod Gates, 90, of Virginia Beach, died Feb. 14, 1997, in her residence.

Mrs. Gates was a native of Gananogue, Ontario, Canada. She was the daughter of the late John MacLeod and Louise Nicholson MacLeod. She was a member of Eastern Shore Chapel Episcopal Church in Virginia Beach. Mrs. Gates was retired from Social Services in Maryland, where she worked as a social worker.

Survivors include her daughter, Sally-Louise Herzer of Virginia Beach; her son, MacLeod Douglass Gates of Chestertown, Md.; two sisters, Sally M. Stoeckle of Newark, Del., and Elizabeth M. Jones of Wyomissing, Pa.; nine grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 17, 1997, at Eastern Shore Chapel Episcopal Church by the Rev. Andrew MacBeth. Burial will be at Chesterfield Cemetery in Centerville, Md. Memorial donations may be made to King's Daughters or of charity of choice. H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Laskin Road, is handling arrangements.
