George Laurence Oakham, 78, of the 5100 block of Lake Shore Drive, died Feb. 13, 1997, in a Portsmouth hospital.
A native of Portsmouth, he was a retired plumber and a member of Holy Communion Lutheran Church and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include two sisters, Virginia O. Jackson and June O. Clark, both of Portsmouth; a brother, Allan E. Oakham of Chesapeake; three nieces, Joy Poulson, Jeri Johnson and Diana Shepherd; five nephews, Paul Jackson, George Brickhouse, Edward Brickhouse, Allan R. Oakham and Richard Clark; and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.
A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday in Holy Communion Lutheran Church by Dr. Dennis Buchholz. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Sunday and other times at 12 Rivercrest Drive, Portsmouth.
