The Rev. Donald J. ``Brother Don'' Kent, 56, died peacefully Feb. 14, 1997, in his home.
Raised in the ``Big Easy,'' New Orleans, he received his bachelor's degree at Louisiana College and his master's degree at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary in church music. He was ordained to full-time ministry in 1969. He served in music and youth ministries at churches in Louisiana, Alabama, Georgia and Virginia. He was active in community theaters throughout the Tidewater area. Also, he appeared in numerous productions for the Tidewater Dinner Theater and the Hurrah Players. He was well-known for his voice, pint size and comedic talents. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.
He is survived by his loving wife, Linda Kent; his three children, Donald Mark, James Ephraim and Laralyn Ruth Kent; his daughter-in-law, Natalie; three beautiful granddaughters, Meghan, Kaitlyn and Chloe Kent. He is also survived by his mother, Annie Laura Kent, and his five favorite sisters, Nancy Kent, Phyllis Kent, Melba Kent, Vicky Kent and Rita Myers.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday in Smith and Williams Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel. The family will receive friends from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home. Donations may be made to the Hurrah Players Inc. children's theatrical group, 935 Woodrow Ave., Norfolk, Va. 23517.
