SUSIE W. STEVENSON

Susie Wood Stevenson, 95, of Forest, Va., and formerly of Middleburgh, N.Y., died Wednesday, Feb. 12, 1997, at Guggenheimer Nursing Home after a long illness.

Born May 5, 1901, in Gilboa, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late John Wood and Cora Wyckoff Wood.

Mrs. Stevenson was a graduate of Middleburgh High School and Albany Business College and was first employed at First National Bank of Middleburgh. An ardent homemaker, for many years she was a partner in Stevenson's Jewelry Store. She served as Middleburgh Village Clerk from April 1955 through March 1961 and several years as bookkeeper for Woods Service Station.

She was the oldest living member of Middleburgh United Methodist Church and the Schoharie Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution and was past chapter regent.

She was married in 1921 to Arthur U. Stevenson, who preceded her in death on March 16, 1964.

She is survived by three daughters, Esther Youngs and her husband, Robert, of Blacksburg, Helene Farrell and her husband, John of Middleburgh, and Marion Webber of Forest; a son, John W. Stevenson and his wife, Jean Anne, of Virginia Beach; 19 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; five nephews; and three nieces.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 22, at Palmer and Shaylor Funeral Home, 63 River St., Middleburgh. Interment will follow in Middleburgh Cemetery. Whitten Timberlake Chapel is directing local arrangements.

The family will receive friends at Palmer & Shaylor Funeral Home from 1 to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 22.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that contributions be made to Schoharie Chapter, NSADAR, Schoharie, N.Y. 12157 or to the church of one's choice.
