Howard Jackson, 62, of 24 Royal St., died Feb. 12, 1997, in Maryview Medical Center.
Born in Tabb, Va., he was a retired assistant foreman for Hampton Roads Sanitation with 28 years of service. He was a member and deacon of St. Mark Church of Deliverance, Portsmouth, participating as a member of the male chorus; he was a Prayer Warrior, former church van driver and former custodian.
Survivors include his wife, Carol A. Jackson; a daughter, Chanda Y. Sykes of Portsmouth; seven stepdaughters, Angela Marie Boynton, Lisa Renee' Garris and Sonya Junita Chapman, all of Newport News, Sharon Denise Freeman, Cynthia Dionne Garris and Tammy Lynna Garris, all of Hampton, and Andrea Michelle Garris of Baltimore, Md.; three sons, Howard Anthony Jackson of Newport News, Rodney Bryant of Hampton, Carleton Michael Jackson of Portsmouth; three sisters, Lucille Forbes of Newport News, Verlene Wardrett of Hampton and Virgie Evans of Grafton, Va.; a brother, Herbert Jackson of Newport News; 11 grandchildren; and a host of other relatives, in-laws and friends.
A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. today in St. Mark Church of Deliverance, Portsmouth, by Bishop Marion M. Jones. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park, Portsmouth.
