Clyde Norris Merritt, 69, of Holiday Island, died Sunday morning, Feb. 16, 1997, in his home.
A native of Little Rock, Ark., he was the son of the late Clyde and Annie Rosemond Merritt. He retired from the Navy after 20 years of service and then as a real estate assessor for the city of Virginia Beach after 18 years. He was a member of the American Legion, VFW, Fleet Reserve, and had formerly been a Mason. Mr. Merritt served for six years on the Holiday Island Property Owners' Association Board of Governors and was a member of the Holiday Island Yacht Club.
Survivors include his wife, Maxine Norman Merritt; a daughter, Diana Ruth Louder of Fredericksburg, Va.; a son, George Michael Merritt of Seattle; a sister, Sue Cooper, and a brother, Robert Merritt, both of Little Rock; and four grandchildren.
The body will be cremated. No service is being planned. Memorial gifts may be sent to Alzheimer's Research, 358 Mowbray Arch, Norfolk, Va. 23507. Swindell Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
