Charles Arthur Gullette, 64, died Sunday, Feb. 16, 1997, in Pitt County Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Gullette, a native of Marion, Ky., grew up in Gary, Ind., and graduated from Horace Mann High School. He attended the University of Louisville and Augustana College, Rock Island, Ill., on a football scholarship. In 1960-61, he made first-string all college conference before his graduation in 1961.
Mr. Gullette, a veteran of the Korean Conflict, served in the Navy for 10 years. He lived in Virginia for 17 years and was a member of the Elks Lodge, the Moose Lodge and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He made his home in Greenville in 1980 and was employed as a sales representative for Cleveland Cotton Products and Sanitary Wiping Cloths until his retirement in 1990.
Surviving are his daughters, Sarah Williamson and Charlene Olson, both of Virginia Beach, Susan Marrero of Norfolk, Sally Waltz of Hampton and Rebekah Gullette and Rachel Gullette, both of Ayden; a son, Charles C. Gullette of Ayden; and 15 grandchildren.
There will be no service. The body was cremated. Willkerson Funeral Home handled arrangements.
