FRIGATE KAUFFMAN RESCUE

Crews from the Norfolk-based frigate Kauffman rescued four civilian sailors and their Yorkshire Terrier from a disabled sailboat about 100 miles off the coast of Jamaica earlier this month. An SH-60 helicopter from the Kauffman found the Naked Lady in distress, eight days after the vessel had lost its sail and rudder in heavy winds and the use of its engine and generator, while under sail for the Virgin Islands. The ship reached the men, described as an American and three Jamaicans, and the crew provided medical attention until a Coast Guard ship took the victims and their vessel in tow to Port Antonio, Jamaica. The Kauffman returned home last week from Operation Carib Shield in the Caribbean.
