Mary Louise Swoope Edwards, 68, died Monday, Feb. 17, 1997, in a local hospital.
Mrs. Edwards was born Dec. 3, 1928, in Sewickley, Pa., daughter of the late Calvin William Sr. and Virginia Ann Parks Swoope. She was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church and the Gold Stars Wives Club of America. She was the wife of the late Master Sgt. Ashby E. ``Sonny'' Edwards Jr. She was the beloved mother of Gerald A. ``Tony'' Edwards, Terry A. Edwards, Ashby E. ``Sonny'' Edwards III and William J. ``Billy'' Edwards Sr. and his wife, Vicky Drake.
Also surviving are two sisters, Virginia Ann Woodington and her husband, Charles T., and Sally Horner and her husband, Monty, of Jacksonville, Fla.; five brothers, Calvin W. Swoope Jr. and his wife, Evelyn, Gerald T. Swoope and his wife, Jackie, Lewis W. Swoope and his wife, Pat, Charles P. Swoope and his wife, Mary, and Raymond Swoope and his wife, Sandra; six grandchildren, Tonya Edwards, Ashby A. ``Sonny'' Edwards IV, William J. ``Billy'' Edwards Jr., Ashley Drake, Marcus Gilmore and Brian Drake; many special nieces and nephews; and special friends, Carolyn Howlett and Amy Martin.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Altmeyer Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday in Christ the King Catholic Church with Fr. Joseph Lehman officiating. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in the form of contributions to Christ the King Catholic Church, 1803 Columbia Ave., Norfolk, Va.
