VIVIAN P. BOND

Vivian (Snooky) Phipps Bond, 71, of the 200 block of Queen Anne Drive died Tuesday, Feb. 18, 1997, in her home.

A native of Chapel Hill, N.C., she was a daughter of the late Honorable Luther James Phipps and Vivian Lassiter Phipps. She was the wife of the late Dr. Edward Griffith Bond.

Mrs. Bond was a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Class of 1948, a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority and a life member of the UNC General Alumni Association.

Mrs. Bond was a former executive director of Historic Albemarle Tours. Also active in the Democratic Party, she professed to be a ``Yeller Dawg'' Democrat. Serving as the chairperson for several campaigns both county- and statewide, Mrs. Bond was chosen as a delegate to the 1964 Democratic National Convention.

Mrs. Bond received the Governor's Volunteer Award in 1995, the Edenton Volunteer Award in 1995 and the Carrie Earnhardt Cup, District Women's Club, in 1963.

Mrs. Bond was very active in St. Paul's Episcopal Church, where she served on the Vestry from 1992 until 1995. She was active in the choir, Altar Guild, and Breakfast Team. She was a former Sunday School teacher, helped organize Solo Flight and was instrumental in bringing a Bosnian family to live in Edenton.

Survivors include her daughter, Patricia Bond Hungate of Gastonia; her son, Edward Griffith Bond Jr. of Wake Forest; sister, Dana Phipps Gorham of Greensboro; and three grandchildren, Michael Boyd Hungate and Stephen James Hungate, both of Gastonia, and Monica Lynn Morgan of Wake Forest.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday in St. Paul's Episcopal Church by the Rev. Russell Johnson with burial following in Beaver Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends in the residence. Evans Funeral Home, Edenton, is in charge.
