Richard Shellie Holland Sr., 72, of the 1600 block of Holland Corner Road died Feb. 17, 1997, in his residence.
A native of Nansemond County, he retired from Norfolk Naval Shipyard after 34 years. He was an Army veteran of World War II and a member of Corinth Chapel United Church of Christ, Suffolk. He was a deacon and treasurer of the church. He was a member of Holland Masonic Lodge No. 256 P.H.A.
Survivors include a daughter, Ethel Deloris Rodgers; four sons, Shellie J. Holland of Chesapeake, Richard C. Holland of Falls Church, Va., Donald L. Holland of Woodbridge, Va., and Daron R. Holland of Jackson, S.C.; four grandchildren; four grandchildren, Roshawn Holland of San Diego, Bryan Rodgers of Virginia Beach, Kiara Holland of Columbus, Ga., and DaQuan Holland of Jackson, S.C.; six sisters-in-law, Ellen Holland, Mary Dildy, Virginia Dildy, Alma Hunter, Beatrice Hunter, all of Suffolk, Gertrude Holland of Fayetteville, N.C.; three brothers-in-law, James Dildy, Theodore Hunter and Thomas Hunter, all of Suffolk.
A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday in Corinth Chapel United Church of Christ by the Rev. J.J. Ferguson. Burial will be held in Roosevlet Memorial Garden, Chesapeake. The body will be placed in the church at 11 a.m. Saturday. Visitation will start Friday at 11 a.m.
