Teenspeak went to Salem High School in Virginia Beach to ask students: Should celebrities, performers, politicians and others in the limelight be held to higher standards than the population as a whole? ILLUSTRATION: Photos
I feel that they should be themselves. The fact of who they are is
what put them in that limelight. If they change that, then they're
just setting other people up to be disappointed in them. Ryan
Garner, 16, junior
I don't think they should have to have higher standards. . . . The
people who are around you and you respect and care for, you should
set higher standards for them. Angela Sye, 15, sophomore
I don't think (they) should be held to a higher standard, but they
should think as themselves to act to a higher standard because they
are in the limelight. We should use our parents and people around
us as role models. Ryan Moyer, 15, sophomore
I think celebrities and athletes should be kept to a higher
standard. They're in the mass media every day, and children and and
adults look up to people. Because of that, they should set a good
example. Sarah Moss, 16, sophomore
