G. Cephas Brittle, 91, died Thursday, Feb. 20, 1997, in Waverly Health Care Center.
Mr. Brittle was born in Surry County and was the son of the late Richie T. and Martha Faison Brittle. He was a member of Union Congregational Christian Church, Elberon, Va. He retired in 1967 as a deputy sheriff with Sussex County Sheriff's Department. He was a lifetime member of Wakefield Hunt Club and a member of Wakefield Sportsman's Club. He was the husband of the late Catherine Barrett Brittle and father of the late Earl T. Brittle.
He is survived by a daughter, Carolyn B. Boykin of Richmond; two sons, Gilbert C. Brittle Jr. of Bowling Green, Charles B. Brittle of Wakefield; six grandchildren, Kimberly B. Eskridge, David C. Brittle, Robin B. Hoagland, Kevin P. Boykin, Carol A. Brittle, Thomas E. Brittle; five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in Wakefield Cemetery by the Rev. Lafayette Wilkins. The family will receive friends in Purviance Funeral Home, Wakefield, from 7 to 8:30 tonight. Memorial donations may be made to the Ivor Volunteer Rescue Squad.
