Larry Donnell Gaines, 39, of the 3200 block of Holly Ridge Drive, formerly of Louder Court, Portsmouth, died Feb. 13, 1997, in Hampton Veteran's Affairs Hospital, Hampton.
He was a tunnel patrolman for the Elizabeth River Tunnel Commission and was a native of Kings and Queens County, Va., and attended Faith Deliverance Christian Center, Norfolk. He was a former member of New Temple of Faith Church of God in Christ and also attended Mount Sinai Gospel Tabernacle, Cape Charles, Va. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Shyann W. Gaines; daughter, Kendra A. Wynder of Chesapeake; son, Donnell La'Ron Gaines of Chesapeake; parents, Yvonne Coleman of Portsmouth and George L. Gaines Sr. of Richmond; four sisters, Andrea Lang of Portsmouth, Gladys Hatcher, Joyce Taylor and Denise Peroune, all of Richmond; four brothers, David Gaines of Hampton, Hobart Coleman III of Portsmouth, Steve Gaines and George Gaines Jr., both of Richmond; maternal grandmother, Bessie Jefferson of Aylett, Va.; 12 aunts; five uncles; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in New Bethel Baptist Church by Elder William Fayton. Burial will be in Olive Branch Cemetery, Portsmouth, with military honors. Viewing at Corprew Funeral Home, Portsmouth, will begin at noon today. The body will be taken to the church at 1 p.m. Saturday.
