SEMINARS DEAL WITH TAXES, HOMES

Do you have questions about taxes and your home? Then make plans to attend one of the free, hour-long tax and real estate seminars sponsored by Jackson Hewitt Tax Service and Womble Realty next week. One session will be held at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Clarion Hotel, 4453 Bonney Road, Virginia Beach; the second at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Holiday Inn-Coliseum, 1815 W. Mercury Blvd., Hampton.

Subjects to be discussed include the Tax Advantages of Home-Ownership and the Complete Home-Buying Process. To register, phone 473-3300, Ext. 3104.

Long & Foster Realtors is offering a free seminar for first-time home buyers from 1 to 3 p.m. March 1 at the company's training center at 5511 Princess Anne Road, Virginia Beach.

Among the topics on the agenda are VA loans, FHA loans, foreclosures and 203K rehab loans. A loan officer, real estate agent, house inspector and lead-based paint inspector will be on hand to answer questions. For reservations, call Don Widmayer at 428-4600.

Finally, the Virginia Housing development Authority and Tidewater Mortgage Bankers Association will hold their monthly two-part home-ownership class, ``Head for Home,'' on March 4 and 6 from 6;30 to 9:30 p.m. at Chartway Federal Credit Union, 160 Newtown Road, Virginia Beach. Mortgage bankers, real estate agents, credit counselors, a home inspector and a closing attorney will be available to answer questions.

The classes have been approved by Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac and several private mortgage insurance companies for eligibility under their community home-buyer programs. Those completing the course will receive a certificate and a free credit report.

To register, call the Virginia Beach Community Development Corp. at 463-9516. The agency can also provide dates of other classes offered this year.

ON DISPLAY: The Peninsula Housing & Builders Association's annual Hampton Roads Home Expo is under way this weekend at the Hampton Coliseum - from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. today and noon to 6 on Sunday. The exhibits include the latest innovations in building, remodeling, landscaping, financing, interior decorating, roofing, windows, carpeting, security systems and home entertainment centers.

Admission is $5.50 for adults, free for children 12 and under. Parking is free.

TOP PERFORMERS: Century 21 At The Mall has cited its best agents and associate brokers for the last quarter. Bronze awards went to Bob Carey, Diane Nowell, Patti Bronson, Traci Hunter, Laura Burnett, John Angotti, A.J. Williamson, Linda Round and Sam Harris. Silver sales awards were earned by Mac McCoy, Anne Burns and Carmen Mills. Ronda Flowers captured a Gold; George Frates and Bob Glasgow won Platinums. Ken Rapp achieved the Centurian Candidate award.

Barbara Watz and Tondea Bailey of Rose & Krueth Realty have received Eagle Awards for customer service. December's leading sales associates were Lynda Martin, Randall Hardy, Cindy Hawks, Jeanne West, Mildred Walker, Liz Davidson, Debbie Davis and Sharon Bauder. Top resale listers were Doug Gerek, Bill Barlow, Pam O'Brien, Pete Capiello and Rich Biege.

Rose & Krueth's President's Award was given to Penny Boyd for her work in 1996. Others noted for year-long achievements were Vicki Holasek, Stephanie Douglas, Cindy Hawks, Jolynn Musel and Karen Kluchonic.

Best performers in the firm's individual offices last year were Gerry Sessor, Donna Roberts, Kathleen Shelton, Bill Barlow, Jeanne West, Pete Cappiello, Pam O'Brien, Lnda Enders, Joe Carter and Mildred Walker.

Other new officers are Glenn Oder of Harrison & Lear, first vice president; Henry Stephens of Associated Developers, second vice president; Stan Cairns, Carolina Homes, treasurer; Vern Lockwood, Virginia Beach Federal, associate vice president, and Diane Carter of Carter & Moses, secretary.

Immediate past president Bill Brown will also serve on the executive committee.

Roger McLellon, president of C.R. McLellon Builder Inc., was named Builder of the Year by the PHBA. Associate of the Year was Chuck Mayer of Virginia Natural Gas.

ACHIEVERS: Georgie Frech of William E. Wood & Associates has received the Certified Residential Specialist designation by the Residential Sales Council of the Realtors National Marketing Institute. Three Realtors at Nancy Chandler Associates have earned the CRS degree: Christina Brandon, Kelly Hollowell and Claudia Mackintosh. Jeanette Cohen and Joyce McKeever, also with Nancy Chandler, have attained the Graduate, Realtor Institute designation.

Richard Stockton, maintenance supervisor with Cornerstone Communities' Arbor Trace Apartments in Virginia Beach, has received the Certified Maintenance Specialist designation from the Tidewater Builders Association. MEMO: On the Move reports management changes, awards, seminars and new
