Gertrude C. Westrick, 89, died Feb. 20, 1997.
Born in Patton, Pa., she retired from NASA after 25 years as a research scientist and mathematician. She taught science for 15 years in the Cambria County School System in Pennsylvania. She was a member for 50 years of St. Rose Star of the Sea, Hampton, and a member of the Norfolk Astronomy Club and the National Association Right to Life.
Survivors include three sisters, Barbara Raney of Fort Myers, Fla., Helen Gray of Miami, Agnes Farabaugh of Philadelphia; and a brother, Steve Westrick of Fort Myers. She was preceded in death by brothers, Raymond and Bob Westrick and sisters, Martha Shero and Mimi Krug; 38 loving nephews and nieces; and Jerry Porter, who took great care of Gertrude in her declining years with such love and compassion.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in St. Benedicts Catholic Church, Carrolltown, Pa., by Fr. Blane Resko, O.S.B. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today in Smith and Williams Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the National Right to Life Association, 419 7th St. NW, Suite 5000, Washington, D.C. 20004-2293.
