JULIUS W. SMITH

Julius Walker ``Red'' Smith, 52, of the 100 block of E. Cummings St., Hampton, and formerly of Norfolk, died Feb. 20, 1997, in Hampton Veteran's Affairs Medical Center.

A member of Disabled American Veterans, he received the Silver Star, Purple Heart, two Bronze Stars with V device, Air Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, United Nations Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, BSM, RVN Army Medal Second Class, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Ranger Tab, Combat Infantry Badge and Parachutist Badge. He also held an Associate of Science Degree in electronics technology.

Survivors include two daughters, Cecily J. Smith of Norfolk and Kimberly L. Smith of Atlanta; son, Julius K. Smith of Virginia Beach; two sisters, Joyce Streets and Mary Smith; three brothers, Daniel Smith, Courtney Smith and Lenford Worsley; grandchildren, Bryan Smith, Angela Smith, Julius Smith II, William Smith; and a host of nieces and nephews.

A funeral will be conducted at noon Wednesday in Basilica of St. Mary, Norfolk, by the Rev. Thomas Quinlan. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Norfolk. Hale Funeral Home is in charge. Family and friends will be received at 7826 Lisa Drive, No. 201, Norfolk. Assembly will be at 11 a.m. the day of the funeral. ILLUSTRATION: Photo
