CLIFTON T. ARTIS

Clifton T. ``Doc'' Artis, 49, of the 700 block of Potomac Ave. died Feb. 19, 1997, in Lake Taylor Hospital, Norfolk.

A shipfitter at Earl's Industrial for five years, Mr. Artis was a Jackson, N.C., native and a U.S. Army veteran. He was also a member of Gospel Tabernacle Church, Norfolk.

Survivors include his wife, Lucille Artis; daughters, Yolanda Artis of Portsmouth; three sons, Clifton Artis Jr., Dwayne Artis and Marcus Artis, all of Portsmouth; parents, Essie T. Artis and Aubrey Artis, both of Paterson, N.J.; three sisters, Sybill Artis of Richmond, Mattie Artis of Paterson and Sandra Artis of Fayetteville, N.C.; seven brothers, James Thomas Artis, Calvin H. Artis, Dallas Lee Artis, all of Paterson, Vernon M. Artis of Camden, N.J., Aubrey Earl Artis of Baltimore, Norman W. Taylor of Jackson and Charles L. Artis of Fayetteville; grandchild, Tierra L. Artis of Portsmouth; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends.

A funeral will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday in Corprew Funeral Home, Portsmouth, by Bishop William Easter. Burial will be in Lincoln Memorial Cemetery, Portsmouth, with military honors. Viewing at the funeral home will begin at noon today. The family will be at the funeral home from 6 to 7 p.m. today.
