ELVIN T. ARTIS

Elvin Tally Artis, 71, of 9100 New Road died Aug. 25, 1997, in Southampton Memorial Hospital.

Born in Nansemond County, he was a farmer for 52 years before retiring six years ago. Mr. Artis was a member of Mt. Sinai Baptist Church. He was a deacon, Sunday school teacher, superintendent of Sunday school, president of senior choir and president of Bethany Baptist Association and Allied Bodies.

Survivors include his wife, Mary B. Artis; two daughters, Theresia A. Jones and Myra D. Forbes; three sons, Lorenza C. Artis, Frankie G. Artis and Elvin G. Artis; six sisters, Vergie L. Taylor, Georgia Mayo, Ruth B. Holland, Thelma A. Faulk, Wilheminia Jordan and Mary Scott; a brother, P.L. Artis; and 15 grandchildren.

A funeral will be conducted at noon Friday in Mt. Sinai Baptist Church by the Rev. Joseph H. Goode. Burial will take place in the church cemetery. Elvin Vaughan Funeral Home, Franklin, is in charge of arrangements. KEYWORDS: DEATH OBITUARY
