CRIME LINE

Virginia Beach

On Aug. 7, about 1 a.m., the Bayside Onmark Service Station at Independence Boulevard and Shore Drive was burglarized.

Entry was gained through a window in the garage area. Once inside, the burglar jimmied open several doors.

The burglar tried to steal the safe from the cashier's booth, but failed. He gave up and left with eight cartons of Marlboro cigarettes.

The burglar is described as black, in his early 20s, 5-feet-8 to 6 feet tall and about 160 to 180 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. He was wearing dark work coveralls.

Norfolk

On Aug. 25, just after 10:30 a.m., a man robbed the Life Savings Bank branch in the 2000 block of Cromwell Drive.

After he entered the bank, the man pulled out a handgun and ordered an employee to the floor. The man tossed a white plastic bag to a bank teller and told her to fill the bag with money.

The robber is described as black, about 29, 5-feet-7, and weighing 145 pounds. He wore a dark blue jumpsuit, a dark blue baseball cap and sunglasses with gold rims.

He had a small black handgun.

Suffolk

On Aug. 18, Owen's Store on Everett's Road was burglarized.

Someone entered the store by breaking a window.

A videotape caught the thief removing an undetermined amount of beer, then leaving through the same broken window.

Newport News

On Aug. 21, about 9:25 a.m., a man robbed the manager of the Boston Market restaurant in the 12000 block of Warwick Blvd.

The manager was in the parking lot when the robber approached and displayed a handgun. He took an undisclosed amount of cash.

He ran toward the Fair Lanes Bowling Alley and may have left the area with a woman who was waiting in a gray, mid-sized vehicle parked on the north side of the bowling alley.

The robber is described as black, in his mid-20s, about 5-foot-9, and 175 pounds, with medium brown skin. He wore a dark baseball cap, a long white T-shirt and new blue jeans.

Hampton

On Aug. 16, at 10:30 p.m., a man entered the Zooms store in the 1400 block of W. Queen St.

He walked around the store before producing a handgun and pointing it at a clerk. He demanded money and fired a shot into the counter. After taking money, he ran.

The man is described as black, with a mustache, in his late 30s, 5 feet 11 inches to 6 feet tall and 170 pounds. He wore a blue hat, a blue shirt and green camouflage pants.

Portsmouth

On Aug. 19, about 2 a.m., the 7-Eleven store in the 1500 block of Airline Blvd. was robbed.

About 2 a.m., a man entered the store and demanded money. A clerk complied and the man fled to a waiting car, an older-model, dark blue four-door.

The man is described as black with a light complexion, 25, 5-feet-9, 130 pounds, with distinct slanted light brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a white shirt and black shorts.

On Aug. 21, about midnight, a man was robbed while walking to his car in the Nickerson Plaza Shopping Center parking lot.

The suspect approached the victim, pointed a handgun at him and demanded money. The robber hit the victim in the mouth with the gun.

During the struggle, the victim pushed away the robber, who ran.

He stopped to rob a second person standing near the side of the shopping center. He took the man's wallet and ran toward the rear of the shopping center.

He is described as black, 6 feet tall, thin and balding. He wore a jogging suit and had a small pistol. KEYWORDS: ROBBERY CRIME LINE
