FOLEY NAMED DIRECTOR OF PURCHASES AND SUPPLY: George Foley, previously managing director of procurement and material handling for Norshipco, was named director of purchases and supply at Norfolk Public Schools.

AGRESTA JOINS ARCHITECTURAL FIRM: Ronald J. Agresta was named an intern architect with Hanbury Evans Newill Vlattas & Co. He has a master of architecture degree from North Carolina State University.

NORFOLK SOUTHERN SPLITS STOCK: The 3-for-1 stock split announced by Norfolk Southern Corporation on July 22 will begin trading on a split basis on Oct. 10. The record date and effective date for the split were Sept. 5. Until Oct. 10, Norfolk Southern common shares will trade in both regular and ``when issued'' formats. During the interim, any purchaser of Norfolk Southern shares at the regular-method price and who holds the stock through Oct. 9 will be eligible to participate in the 3-for-1 split.

NEWPORT NEWS

ENGINEERING FIRM ACQUIRED: Espey, Huston & Associates, an engineering firm with 25 Newport News-based employees, is being acquired by Miami-based Post, Buckley, Schuh & Jernigan Inc. Employment is expected to grow there by five employees, said Tom Johnson, senior vice president with Espey's Newport News office.

TRAVEL MANAGEMENT FIRM TO OPEN DAY CARE CENTER: McCord Consumer Direct, the Newport News-based division of McCord Travel Management, has announced plans to open an on-site educational day care center. ``The Learning Center'' will provide supervision for employees' children from 3 months to 14 years of age. A grand opening is planned for Jan. 1, 1998.

GRANT JOINS PUBLIC RELATIONS FIRM: Martha Grant was named an account supervisor at Barker Campbell Farley & Mansfield Advertising, Public Relations and Promotions. She was an account supervisor for The Martin Agency in Richmond.
