Authorities say a man accused of stalking his girlfriend killed her and
then committed suicide.
Police were called to 407 Hanover Avenue in Roanoke last night- after a man
apparently told a family member he had killed his girlfriend.
When police arrived they found 26- year- old Larry William Mack with a self
inflicted gunshot wound.
He later died at Roanoke Memorial Hospital.

Police then searched the Valleypointe area of Roanoke County where they
found the body of a woman in shrubbery at a construction site.
21- year- old Alesha Ann Johnson was shot several times at the scene,
according to Roanoke County police.
Last weekend Mack was arrested for allegedly stalking his girlfriend-
Mack was also facing five other charges, including assault and battery and
shooting into a vehicle.
He was out on bond on the assault charge, but a hearing was scheduled today
to have his bond revoked.
Guerrillas battling in the capital of Sri Lanka set off a string of
explosions in two key oil depots today.
At least 20 people died in the attack.
The pre-dawn blasts set oil storage tanks ablaze, shrouding the city in
black plumes of smoke and prompting thousands of panicked people to flee the
Ta-meel (Tamil) rebels have been fighting for a homeland in Sri Lanka for a

During a day of heated debate Democrats charged the Republican plan was a
way to pay for a tax hike for the rich.

In Roanoke, Executive Director Susan Williams says there will be higher
premiums for older folks unless they agree to join H-M-O's.
The problem with that, she says, is that managed care is still new, and

She says medicaid reimbursements are the bread and butter for many in the
nursing home industry.

NATO'S secretary General (VIH'-lee Klahs) Willy Claes has resigned.
The move comes a day after the Belgium parliament voted to pursue

Terry Nichols and Timothy McVeigh face federal murder and conspiracy charges
in the April 19th bombing that killed 169 and injured 500.

Botetourt County's sheriff is expressing shock and disbelief over some
allegations made against him.
A few days ago Sheriff Reed Kelly
got a letter from county jail inmate Jason Joseph Jones.
In the note, Jones describes in graphic detail how he plans to murder the
sheriff's entire family, then destroy his home.
Jones' mother alleges that Kelly then went to the jail, pulled her son out
of his cell, and choked him.
The sheriff admits he went to the jail, but says he never used unnecessary
force on Jones.

Jones is currently serving time for a burglary conviction and Kelly says
he's not sure when he'll be released.
The inmate's mother says her son plans to file charges against the sheriff.
Meanwhile, Jones has picked up a new felony charge-- sending a threatening
letter through the mail.
Two people remain hospitilized following a car and truck collision
yesterday in Danville that took the lives of two children.
Police say Norma Jean Daniels pulled out into the path of a dump truck that
was travelling north on Route 2-65.
Twelve- year old Jami Renee Earles and 10- year old James Mark Earles were
killed in the accident.
Another passenger in the car, four- year- old Santiago Millner is in good
condition at Davnville Regional Medical Center.
Daniels is in fair condition.
The driver of the dump truck, Earl Watson Cobbs, was treated at the scene
for minor injuries.
Ed Easterling says he believes a fortune of gold and silver is buried
beneath the Bedford County countryside.
This week, he's sharing five years of research on the Beale Treasure.
The Roanoke postal worker has added his name to the list of authors who
have published books on the Beale Treasure.
While he hasn't located the treasure himself, he says he HAS uncovered
information that may help someone else.

Some scary moments last night for passengers aboard a Canadian jetliner in
Vancouver, British Columbia.
The D-C ten was about to take off when the pilots noticed a problem with
the landing gear and aborted take-off, sending the airliner off the end of the
runway and onto a field.
All 256 passengers were forced to evacuate.
Five of the passengers and a ground worker were treated for minor injuries.

The valuables were recovered by Bulgarian police during the past decade, and
are now on display at the country's Historical Musuem.
The artifacts were being held as evidence in major court cases.
Valuables from all chronological periods are represented, with the oldest
dating from the 4th Century B.C.
The most valuable exhibit includes a gold medallion from the 4th century,
and Greek coins from the Middle Ages.
