Jack Kevorkian took the stand today to defend himself against assisted
suicide charges from two 1993 deaths.

The retired pathologist is charged with assisting in the deaths of a
72-year-old woman and a 61-year-old man.
Kevorkian has been present at 27 suicides.
In Los Angeles, two brothers are waiting to see if a jury will convict them
of the 1989 murders of their parents.
The panel is deliberating the fates of Erik and Lyle Menendez who stand
accused of the brutal killings.
The brothers claim they committed the murders because they feared for their
lives after years of abuse.
The prosecution says the pair killed for their inheritance.
Two earlier trials ended in hung juries.
All- American defensive end Cornell Brown is now a defendant in Christy
Brzonkala's case against Virginia Tech.
In the process of adding one of Tech's most highly acclaimed athletes,
Brzonkala's lawyer raised the damage claim from 8-point-3 million to TEN

Workers at the Heironimus store in the New River Valley Mall say they learned
today their store will close next month.
Employees estimate that at least 30 full and part time people earn their pay
So far the workers say they have no word on if they will be offered jobs at
