A Roanoke man with a HISTORY of lewd behavior is held without bond, charged
with making an obscene phone call to a 14-year old girl.
Michael Obremski is the same man police suspect of stalking children in
Raleigh Court three years ago.
We'll hear from them and HIM in a moment.

A suspect in as many as 100 obscene phone calls to young girls is being
held without bond tonight.
Police and prosecutors convinced a judge today that Michael Andrew Obremski
has a history of threatening behavior.
In addition to the obscene calls, they believe he's the same man who
terrorized the Raleigh court neighborhood three years by stalking grade-school

Late Wednesday afternoon, police arrived, armed with a search warrant.

The search warrant affidavit lists a record of lewd and obscene behavior
involving children dating back to 1979 in Memphis, Tennessee.
Obremski's most recent conviction includes an obscene phone call in
Roanoke. But city police never had enough to go on to charge him with stalking
in Raleigh Court.

Though police believe Obremski's been using the pay phone at the motel for
the past two YEARS, it wasn't until last month that they figured out he LIVED
State and city police helped place surveillance on the phone.

With all that evidence, by the time Obremski got to court this afternoon,
the judge ordered him held without bond.

But the list of past and pending charges kept him locked up.
Police say they expect to charge Obremski with felonies as the result of
some of his obscene comments.

Henry County authorities believe they've made a serious dent in a local drug
trafficking ring with connections to New York.

This undercover investigation been going on for six months. Long before a U-S
News and World Report magazine hit newsstands detailing the area's struggle
with drugs and violence.

The prospect of the death penalty has been lifted for Christopher Shawn

The teenager is accused in the shooting death of Wythe County sheriff's
deputy Clifford Dicker.
This week, Circuit Judge Colin Campbell ruled Wheeler may not be prosecuted
for any charge higher than SECOND degree murder.
That's the charge on which a juvenile court judge transferred Wheeler to
CIRCUIT court to be tried as an adult.
Prosecutors then tried to amend the indictment to CAPITAL murder, but
Campbell ruled he could not circumvent the juvenile court's ruling.
Iron Gate Police Officer Jim Phillips crossed the line as he pursued a
suspect in March.
Yesterday, a judge in Botetourt County upheld his conviction for reckless

that in the absence of an emergency, Phillips had abused his discretion when he

Roanoke diners will not have to pay more for eating out in their favorite
Mayor David Bowers says he wants to clear up any misconceptions.
There will NOT be an increase in the city's meal tax -- at least this year.

Bowers says city council apologizes for any misunderstanding during a heated
discussion about increasing revenues in Roanoke, Wednesday night.
In fact, the mayor says this year's budget has gained preliminary approval
and is pending for a special council meeting.
The budget does not contain a tax increase.
Bowers also says Roanoke does not need extra income to balance the budget.
Even before this country was born, Hampden- Sydney College has educated men,
and only men, on its campus near Farmville.
But faced with the challenge of attracting students, the school is now
considering admitting women for the first time in its 220- year history.

taking a different approach to getting their message across.
The women make up the organization "Bike Against Domestic Violence."
They kicked off their campaign in Austin, Texas in March.

in practice with a back injury.

When it comes to this trip, basketball is hardly the only thing on the
minds of these 14 and under AAU players.
Roanoke is one of 9 teams that will compete in the two day tournament this
weekend at Freedom Hall.
Knowing NBA star Dell Curry has also helped. Curry, a longtime friend of AAU
