In Richmond, phones have been ringing off the hooks today with news of the
Ellen Qualls is in our Richmond newsroom with some reaction.
Keith, the American Civil Liberties Union led the legal battle against the
Citadel's all- male status.
Its attorneys in Virginia filed "friend of the court" briefs supporting the
Justice Department's fight against VMI.
The ACLU was pleased today -- particularly by the 7-to-1 vote margin.

The man accused of causing a fatal traffic accident while fleeing from
Roanoke County police pleaded guilty this morning.
21-year-old Scott Allman appeared in court and pled guilty to three counts
of involuntary manslaughter, and two misdemeanor traffic charges.
Allman is accused of killing a Vinton couple and their infant in April when
he struck their car while fleeing from police.
The prosecution expects Allman to ask for mercy.

Allman will be sentenced in September and faces up to 32 years in prison.
The suspect in two murders-- one in Roanoke and one in North Carolina--
was apprehended yesterday in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Aquila Barnett is accused of fatally shooting his ex-girlfriend, 23-year
old Robin Williams Saturday in Roanoke.
Police say he apparently stalked Williams before the killing.
He was suspected of setting fire in April to the home where Williams lived
with her boyfriend.
Barnett is also wanted on murder and robbery charges after the death of a
South Carolina man, whose body was found in Charlotte.
A family member told authorities Barnett was staying with his mother.
A federal judge says Oklahoma City bombing victims can't help but be
affected by seeing those accused in the blast.

officials concerned and a fast food restaurant in Salem shut down.
The Hardees on route 419 closed yesterday after the health department
discovered two employees there had contracted salmonella.
Salmonella is a food borne disease characterized by symptoms such as stomach
upset, severe headaches, and abdominal pain.
