Hurricane Fran is plowing her way up Eastern North Carolina.
The eye of Fran came ashore tonight at Cape Fear- battering the coast
with 115 mile an hour winds.
Tonight there are wide spread power outages and torretial rains to a

((Hurricane fran gathered momentum just before it came ashore at dusk with
its 115 mile per hour winds and torrential rains... it tore into cape fear,
North Carolina first. The category Three Hurricane ripped apart
trees and anything else it could sink its powerful wind gusts into one weather
station measured 124 mile per hour gusts.
Fran headed towards Wilmington North Carolina where the downpour was
actually blowing sideways...and the flooded streets had puddles eighteen
inches deep. Before the worst of the storm even hit, Wilmington had
recorded eleven inches of rain in twelve hours
More than half a million people were evacuated along the coasts of North
and South Carolina...and thousands of people lay safely inside emergency
shelters waiting out the storm.
In Myrtle Beach the force of hurricane Fran was less than expected. but
none the less it showed its strength. the results of flooding and sea surges
remain to be seen.

Virginia is waiting for the arrival of Hurricane Fran.
Heavy rains are expected over the next 24 hours-- mainly in southern and

The ground is already saturated from rains earlier in the week. Jay Moore
joins us with an update.
Jean, forecasters are saying wide spread flooding is possible throughout
most of the state.
And many residents have taken heed of their warning.

More than 100 members of the Hollins Road Baptist Church boarded up windows

Governor Allen has declared a State Emergency throughout the entire

Southside residents are also preparing for flooding and high winds.
The area was hit hard this week by a series of downpours-- which are still

The high water is a result of heavy rain that fell earlier this week causing
the Dan River to swell.

Police in Marion are investigating the death of a 68 year-old woman they
believe was murdered in her own home.
Police discovered the body of Anna Jean Anderson last night. She was a
retired school teacher.
Neighbors called police after they entered her home on Culbert Street and
became suspicious that things appeared out of place.
