For the first time, scientists in Belgium have actually been able to watch
WHAT the brain does during a dream.

While patients slept, the researchers used sophisticated imaging
techqniques to identify the parts of the brain that were turned on or off
during a dream.
Watching the brain circuits interact, they were able to actually see the
physical manifestations of brain activity.
They found one of the regions most active when we dream is the same one
that's responsbile for emotions.
Also interesting is that the parts of the brain that give us a sense of
time, and helps us remember things-- were turned off during dreaming.
That may help explain why we often can't remember our dreams when we wake
up.
