Boucher says even HE doesn't recall the marijuana portion of the law -- but
he says it would require a doctor's prescription in capsule form.

Boucher's co-patron is still in the Senate.

Trouble has apparently followed a breeder charged with animal cruelty and
Franklin County authorities say last week they rescued about 100 dogs and
cats from Valery Green's home.
They say the house was covered with animal feces, and puppies were piled
into plastic crates.
In 1995, Valery Green was convicted of 12 misdemeanors in RADFORD, including
harboring barking dogs, allowing dogs to run at large, and permitting animals
to become unsanitary.
And in Montgomery County, Green is charged with obtaining an animal by false
pretenses and threatening to set fire to a residence.
Liz McKinney says Green used a fake name to adopt one of McKinney's former
show dogs, and violated a contract by breeding the animal for profit.
McKinney says Green threatened to burn her out if McKinney didn't drop her
In ROCKBRIDGE County, Animal Control Officer Delbert Moore says Green still
owes boarding fees for loose dogs which Moore picked up.
A Danville police officer wounded while attempting to serve a search
warrant spent today reliving the moment he was shot.

The family of a man shot to death by Roanoke Police last year has filed a
one-point-five million dollar lawsuit against the officers and the city.
Thirty-five year old Edwin Plunkett was holding a loaded hunting rifle when
officers shot and killed him in the doorway of his home on Cherryhill Circle in
The City Prosecutor decided the officers "reasonably believed their lives
were in danger."
The suit filed by an ABINGDON law firm today claims Plunkett's death "is
only one incident in a pattern of violent misconduct perpetrated by the police
A circuit court judge has decided, for the time being, "NOT" to move the
second murder trial of James Henry Burley out of Amherst County.
Burley will be tried next week for the murder of Jacqueline Dorsey Carter in
He's already been convicted of killing Robin Jeanette Burge.
Burley's attorneys argued today that media publicity surrounding the first
case had made it impossible for their client to get a fair trial in Amherst
But Judge Michael Gamble wants to try and seat a jury first before deciding
whether to move the case out of central Virginia.

It puts coordinators in the schools to help students deal with drug and alcohol
Three years ago Roanoke City schools had five, three in the middle schools,
and one at each high school.

Retiring five term Congressman L.F. Payne won't be watching his former
colleagues get sworn in on the Hill tomorrow.
Payne's on a two day official campaign kick-off tour for the part-time job
of Lieutenant Governor.

Former Washington Redskin quarterback Doug Williams has been named the new
head football coach at Morehouse College in Atlanta.
Williams was the most valuable player from the 1988 Super Bowl while
leading the Washington Redskins to the championship win over the Denver
Broncos. He's been serving as an NFL scout with the Jacksonville Jaguars n the
Williams played his college football at grambling and has been mentioned as
a possible replacement there but has accepted the Morehouse job.
The Washington Redskins have named former New York Giants Assistant Mike
Nolan as their new defensive coordinator.
Nolan replaces Ron Lynn, who was fired from the position after the Redskins
fell to 9 and 7 following a 7 and 1 start. In Lynn's three years the Skins
defense ranked 26th, 18th, and 28th in the league.
The city of Charlotte was still buzzing today after yesterday's 26-17 win
over the defending world champion Dallas Cowboys at Erickson Stadium in the NFC
playoffs. Now the Panthers must divert their attention from this win to the
mighty Green Bay Packers. But beating the Cowboys is a hard topic to drop.
