A COUPLE of major retailers at Valley View hang out the "CLOSED" sign

We'll have a LIVE report from the Mall coming up on NEWS-7 at SIX.
And an out-of-court settlement leads to the demise of City Pawn. Customers
are NOT happy with the pay off.
Tonight in sports, UVa football, Roanoke Rush Football and Greg Maddux's dad
are all making news.
But the top headline grabber of the day is Mike Tyson who loses $3 million
dollars and his boxing license for a year for biting.
The short history of two stores in the same Roanoke shopping complex had an
abrupt ending in the past 24 hours.

Tim and Tony McGuire ran in Southeast Roanoke.

THE OTHER MEDIA ATTENTION ABOUT IT THAT THERE WAS A HUGE AMOUNT OF MONEY IN AN
ESCROW ACCOUNT JUST WAITING TO BE ATTACHED, AND IT WASN'T GOING TO HURT ME NOR
ANYBODY SURROUNDING ME, SO THEY MIGHT AS WELL GO DOWN THERE AND ATTACH IT.))
One hundred-92 people filed claims against the $4,000 in escrow.
They settled the case, after the attorney general concluded City Pawn- -and
others- -were breaking the law by pawning car titles rather than tangible
merchandise such as stereos and V-C-R's.
The average customer got a check this week for 21-dollars-and five cents.
((AND WE PAID $375. WE PAWNED THE VEHICLE FOR $150. AND THAT'S THE AMOUNT OF
MONEY WE GOT OUT OF IT.))
Elizabeth Gray intends to file a civil suit against City Pawn- -even though
McGuire says the business is closed, deeply in debt, unable to pay anybody.
((HE HAS A CAR LOT. HE NEEDS TO TAKE THE MONEY THAT HE RECOVERS OFF OF THE CARS
HE SELLS OFF OF HIS CAR LOT AND PAY THESE PEOPLE BACK. Even though they're
unrelated, separate corporations? RIGHT. I JUST FEEL LIKE THAT IF HE TOOK THE
MONEY HE NEEDS TO PAY IT BACK TO THE PEOPLE. IF HE WAS IN THE WRONG THAT HE
SHOULDN'T HAVE BEEN TAKING CAR TITLES IN THE FIRST PLACE, WHY DID HE EVEN DO
Ironically McGuire is stuck with a bank loan of his own- -money he borrowed
to get City Pawn started.
When the A-G's office insisted the McGuires pay back all the outstanding
loans- -forgo principle AND interest- -return the titles to customers free and
clear... it cost the locally- famous race car drivers $175,000.
((THEY DO NEED TO UNDERSTAND THAT THE MAJORITY OF THIS SETTLEMENT WAS THE
RELEASE OF THEIR CAR TITLES BACK TO THEM WITH NO PAYMENT.))

Still reeling from a political fight, Southside tobacco farmers say Mother

Hail ripped through local tobacco farms, stealing this season's profits.
Farmers had been hoping for rain.

Halifax, and Pittsylvania Counties.
