Heavy rain and melting snow have left much of the region soaked tonight.
Small streams, creeks and rivers are leaving their banks.
[Double Boxes=Jean and David/Microwave]
The Roanoke River is expected to peak about five feet above flood stage.
David Johnson is standing by the River.
David, what's the latest?
Jean, most of the water damage was done earlier today. Some people in the outer areas of the Valley were forced from their homes and now, they are just trying to get things cleaned up.

Some endured the storm and are busy cleaning up the aftermath.
Earlier, 40-or more roads in Roanoke and a number of them in the County were blocked off due to heavy rains.
Public drains were unable to handle the additional water, making for hazardous driving conditions.
Some streets in low-lying places in Vinton were also closed as Glade creek overtook the front yards and homes of some residents.

All this inclimate weather over the past day or so has caused additional power outages for American Electric Power customers in central and western Virginia and southern West Virginia.
Some roads in Roanoke that were previously blocked off because of high water have been reopened but motorists are still cautioned to not drive over roads where the street is not visible.

David, you mentioned earlier about the Roanoke River Cresting at 15-feet. What about the James River, any danger of it flooding?
The storm sent a mixture of heavy snow and rain through parts of Rockbridge County.
Officials evacuated four adults and two children and set up an emergency shelter because of flooding.
Some people say the high water caught them off guard.

Still to come on the 11, charter schools are another step closer to reality,
and if one state senator has his way, the proposed higher education center in Roanoke will lose ALL its state funding.
Real Estate Broker Earl Frith now says he doesn't believe he made two 8-thousand dollar cash deposits.
The government contends the deposits are proof that Frith was trying to avoid the requirement to report cash transactions over 10-thousand dollars.
Frith spent much of the day on the witness stand.
He insisted the handwriting on the deposit slips is not his.
To prove the point, his lawyer showed the jury cancelled checks Frith wrote around the same time the cash deposits were made in 1989... to compare the handwriting.
Judge James Turk asked why Frith said he HAD made the two 8-thousand dollar deposits -when asked about it in 1991.
The conversation was recorded by the I-R-S and played for the jury this week.

And today, charter schools became a sure bet in Virginia.
