Our New Vice President
At the December 8 meeting of the Board of Directors Dr. Carl Phetteplace, Physician and Surgeon of Eugene, Oregon, was unanimously elected Vice President of the American Rhododendron Society to fill out the unexpired term of Edward B. Dunn who recently moved to the Presidency. Dr. Phetteplace has served for several years as an A.R.S. Director. He has long been a collector of outstanding rhododendron varieties and species. Among the latter which he has named have been 'Barto Rose' and 'Barto Blue'. Becoming deeply interested in the Barto plants he made a thorough study of the life and works of James Barto which was published in the A.R.S. Bulletin a few years ago.
