Great Lakes Chapter Show

The annual show was held in Pittsburgh, Pa., on the magnificent "Golden Triangle." The show itself was a two day affair and was held in an open mall area in conjunction with the Three Rivers Art Festival. For protection the entries were housed in a large open-sided tent erected on the site.
Show awards and ribbons were presented at the June 1 meeting, as follows:

First President's Sterling Award for Best in Show to Roy Forster for a seedling of R. smirnowii X 'Lady Bessborough'.
The Great Lakes Chapter Award for Best Catawbiense Hybrid in Commerce to Paul Schmidt for 'Everestianum'.
The Great Lakes Chapter Award for the Best New Hybrid Seedling never before Shown to Roy Forster for a seedling of 'America' X 'Dr. Ross' ( R. griersonianum X 'Borde Hill').
The Helen Wescot Barbre Award for the Best Pink Flowered Rhododendron to Roy Forster for a seedling of 'America' X R. yakushimanum .
The Erie Award for the Best Persistent Leaved Azalea to E. L. Schmidt for 'Unknown'.
The Peter P. Loesch, Sr. Award for the Best Rhododendron Species to Frederick J. Close for 'Catalgla'.
The Allegheny Award for the Best Deciduous Azalea to Frederick J. Close for 'Pride Hybrid'.
The Ohio Award for the Best Red Truss of a Rhododendron in Commerce to Frederick J. Close for Mars'.
The C. O. Dexter Award for the Best Pink Truss of a Rhododendron in Commerce to Albert Hartmen for 'Pinnacle'.
The Pennsylvania Award for the Best White Truss of a Rhododendron in Commerce to Orlando Pride for 'Catawbiense Album'.
The Secrest Award for the Best American Produced Hybrid Rhododendron Truss to David Leach for ‘Pink Flourish'.
