Rhododendron 'Parker's Pink'

Mrs. Fred E. Knapp, New York Chapter

Henry Dumper, president of the New York Chapter from 1965 to 1968, shares with his wife Julie one of the outstanding gardens of the area. Many lovely mature plants are grouped with a careful eye for color and blooming date on a residential sized plot in Roslyn Estates, Long Island. Thoughtful layout has created many lovely vistas, erasing borderlines from view, and bringing chapter members back repeatedly to one of their favorite spots for spring garden tours. The plant of R. 'Parker's Pink' on the cover was taken in the spring of 1970. This is a Dexter hybrid from the former Parker estate in Halesite, Long Island now owned by Dorothy Schlaikjer of the New York Chapter. Named by Paul Vossberg, the plant is well known in the area but not available in quantity. The typically large round truss is of exceptionally clear and strong pink darkening at the margins to give a near bicolor effect. One of the very best pink Dexters.
